Inch by inch, row by row gonna make this garden grow

My little garden has come a long way. It all started in May. It is amazing how much it has grown!

I am excited to begin enjoying the results. So far a strawberry is all we have had. I also included a picture of my favorite flower to plant, the Castle Celosia. We planted some in the front flower bed, but they did not make it.  They were on sale and already dying, so it was a gamble. We tried. Oh to save a buck – HA!

There have been a few issues. We had attack of the giant tomato caterpillar. My dad and a hoe took care of that. The squash and zuchinni were attacked by squash bugs. Seven* took care of that.

Stay tuned for the July garden update – first of August! How is your garden thriving?

*if you use seven be very cautious. It is toxic to children and animals.

Strawberry Fields Forever

Posted by Howdy George | Posted in Garden | Posted on 26-05-2011

The first fruit has emerged from my garden! Despite the rain (and more rain, rain, rain) a strawberry has made an appearance. I ate it last night, and it tasted delicious! I have really enjoyed having a garden over this past three weeks or so. My little guy and I go out and survey the “land” a couple times a day. He likes the yellow pinwheels I have more than the actual garden. He moves them around from place to place to keep things interesting. It has also been great to have the mint and cilantro handy. I made taquitos a few nights ago and I popped out to the garden and pulled a few off the plant, stepped inside, rinsed, chopped, enjoyed! My other half stated it was the best cilantro he had ever tasted – and who am I to tell him he is wrong?
How is your garden fairing the seemingly never ending rainy season?

Gonna make this garden grow All it takes is a rake and a hoe

The garden is up and running. I have wanted to have a garden for years, and it has never worked out. This year, my dad and mister crafted three raised beds for my birthday.
They were hidden in my dads vintage Ford, and I was led outside for the surprise.

I planted strawberries, cilantro and mint in pots between the beds.

I found these cute markers at Hobby Lobby.

This box has squash and zucchini. The other two have carrots, cucumber, tomato, red bell pepper, green bell pepper. It has rained so much I have only watered once. Little mister and I go out every morning and “survey the plantation”, it has been fun.

Thank you to my dad and mister for the garden, it is one of the best gifts I have ever received!
